MeTa²gs – Visualization of big amounts of data

Alternative illustration of hard drive contents with semantic techniques.

Motivation

Nowadays the amount of data increases very quickly. Therefore, it is not easy to get an overview and to find the desired data. Most of the time people use filter browsers like Microsoft Windows Explorer or the Mac Finder to get access and to look for specific data. Unfortunately, these filters are not appropriated for the illustration of big amounts of data. Tree structures are used for the illustration and the order is determined by a hierarchical structure of the data system.

Description of a solution

The goal of the project was the development of a program for average Windows or Mac users that enables them to determine the filtered objects and type of illustration and the order of the objects. Instead of using a tree or folder structure, general and media specific metadata were relevant for the identification, classification, illustration and order of the program. This approach was supposed to simplify the search and the administration of media data.
